Scleral Contact Lenses
Scleral Contact Lenses are re-emerging as a viable option for patients needing vision correction. Even though this lens has been around for over 125 years, in just the past few years they have started gaining in popularity.
These lenses are large and fit on the sclera or white portion of the eye. By fitting on the scleral it creates a tear-filled chamber over the cornea. The material is an oxygen permeable polymer and offers numerous advantages over their gas permeable counterparts. They offer improved comfort, more stability, and work better on patients with irregular corneas.
This lens is a great option if you are not able to wear gas permeable lenses, if you suffer from keratoconus, post penetrating keratoplasty, post RK, and even dry eye.
At Laguna Eye Care Optometry, we offer all types of scleral lenses to fit the various needs of our patients. If you would like more information on scleral contact lenses, give us a call.
